79th Independence Day: Nurturing Responsible Citizens

15 August 2025

The air at St. Dominic’s School (CBSE), Bantwal, was charged with a profound sense of patriotism as the institution gathered to commemorate the 79th Independence Day. The morning commenced with a dignified procession, where the rhythmic beats of the school band escorted the esteemed dignitaries to the assembly grounds, setting a tone of solemnity and pride for the day’s proceedings.

Honouring the National Tricolour

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Praveen D’Souza, alongside the Correspondent, Rev. Fr. Sunil Christopher D’Souza, and the Principal, Rev. Fr. Francis Arun D’Souza. Guided by the School Head Boy and Head Girl, the dignitaries proceeded to the flag post for the hoisting of the National Flag. As the tricolour unfurled, the entire school community joined in a resonant rendition of the National Anthem, a moment that symbolised collective devotion to the motherland.

Inspirational Addresses and Visionary Leadership

The event featured a series of thought-provoking addresses that reinforced the school’s commitment to character building and national service:

  • The Call to Responsibility: In his keynote address, Rev. Fr. Praveen D’Souza reminded students that freedom is not merely a gift but a significant responsibility. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of “Naya Bharat”, urging the youth to make wise, ethical choices that will shape the future of the nation.

  • A Commitment to Dedication: Rev. Fr. Sunil Christopher D’Souza emphasised the importance of performing national honours, such as singing the National Anthem, with heartfelt dedication and a deep sense of commitment to the country’s progress.

A Tribute to the Price of Freedom

The students of Grade 7, who spearheaded the day’s organisation, showcased their talents through a series of evocative performances:

  • Divine Invocation: A serene prayer service and a graceful welcome dance set a reflective mood for the morning.

  • Theatrical Excellence: A poignant drama titled “Price of Freedom” was staged, vividly illustrating the arduous struggles and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters.

  • Rewarding Merit: The celebration also served as a platform to recognize the youngest Dominicans, with a dedicated prize distribution ceremony for the Kindergarten section.

Through this celebration, St. Dominic’s School continues to uphold the CBSE mandate of fostering holistic growth and civic consciousness, ensuring that every student understands the weight of the liberty they inherit.
